Roger "Pete" ARNOLD, 86, of Brighton, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, at Washington County Hospital in Washington, Iowa.

Arrangements are pending at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton.

Roger 'Pete' ARNOLD

Roger "Pete" ARNOLD, 86, of Brighton, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, at Washington County Hospital in Washington, Iowa.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Pleasant Plain, with the Rev. Robert Striegel officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Brighton (note: in Washington Co., IA).

Visitation is 3-5 p.m. Sunday at the church, followed by prayers for a Christian wake at 5 p.m.

Memorials for Hospice of Washington County or Brighton Volunteer First Responders may be left at the church or mailed to the family at 305 W. Fountain, Brighton 52540.

Mr. ARNOLD was born Oct. 3, 1927, in Brighton, the son of Floyd and Jael LUELLEN ARNOLD. He married Pearl Kasylda LAMANSKY, June 1, 1949, at St. Joseph Church in East Pleasant Plain.

He graduated from Brighton High School in 1945.

He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 44 years, at Hy-Vee Garden Center in Washington, Iowa, for six years and at Popejoy's DX in Brighton, and he was a carpenter.

He was a drummer in "big band" groups and other bands for 26 years.

He worked as a referee and umpire for high school and college baseball, basketball and football games.

He was a loyal Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife in Brighton; one son, William ARNOLD and spouse Nancy of Harrisburg, Neb.; two daughters, Sally OGDEN and spouse Terry of Watkins, Colo., and Mary ARNOLD of Castle Rock, Colo.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Robert and Thomas; and one brother, Richard.
