John E. WHEATLEY Sr., 81, died at noon Wednesday, Jan. 27, 1993, at Parkview Care Center.
His body was donated to the University of Iowa Medical College in Iowa City. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Feb. 13 at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Richard Wallarab officiating. Memorials may be given through First Presbyterian Church in Fairfield to the Presbytery of East Iowa for a mission project of the family's choice.
WHEATLEY was born Aug. 5, 1911, in Longmont, Colo., the son of Frank and Minnie McGINNIS WHEATLEY. He graduated from Peru State Teachers Collge (sp) in Peru, Neb., and the Omaha Theological Seminary in Omaha, Neb. On June 3, 1934, he married Virginia MUNCY in Tecumseh, Neb. He served as a minister from 1936 to 1977 in California, Iowa; Shelby; Carroll; Des Moines; Davenport; Cedar Rapids; and Balboa, Panama Canal Zone. He served interim ministries in Fairfield; Tuba City, Ariz.; Margarita, Panama Canal Zone; and Indianola. A resident of Fairfield since September 1976, he was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Fairfield Lions Club, Howard Johnson's Coffee Club, and the Presbyterian of East Iowa.
Surviving are his wife of Fairfield; a son, John E. Jr. of Providence, R.I.; a daughter, Patricia Ann RICE of Little Silver, N.J.; six grandchildren; a brother, Warren of Wymore, Neb.; and a sister, Marjorie NELSON of Fort Collins, Colo.
