John Fredrick NELSON Jr.

John Fredrick NELSON Jr., 78, Route 4, died at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, 1993, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Royar officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Family visitation will be from 7:30 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to Jefferson County Hospital.

NELSON was born May 30, 1914, near Packwood, the son of John Fredrick and Kate I. STEPHENSON NELSON. When he was young, the family moved to Fairfield, where he has lived since. He graduated from Fairfield High School in 1931. He farmed until retiring and worked at Fairfield Engineering for more than 15 years. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles. He married Violet DOBRAS on Sept. 13, 1941, at East Pleasant Plain. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Jerry of Fairfield, John of Donnellson; and six grandchildren. His parents, a sister, Mary Edith SPRATT, and a granddaughter preceded him in death.
