John Henry BAILEY

John Henry BAILEY, 74, of rural Floris, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

A funeral is at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, with the Rev. Donna Olinger officiating. Cremation will follow the service.

Visitation with family present is 9:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday, prior to the service.

Gifts to a memorial to be designated later by the family may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 16252 Wheat Ave., Floris 52560.

Mr. BAILEY was born Feb. 6, 1939, in Joy, Ill., the son of Virgil and Ruth BOYCE BAILEY. He married Gloria LINDER July 10, 1960, at Bethel Free Methodist Church in rural Douds.

He was a truck driver for Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown and Norris Construction Co. in Ottumwa.

He also farmed in rural Davis County, where he lived most of his life.

He served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Cold War.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Patrick BAILEY and spouse Janice of Norway, Iowa, and James D. BAILEY and spouse Lori of Douds; one daughter, Teresa HARTMAN of Bloomfield; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, James E. BAILEY of Floris; and one sister, Ruth WONDERS of Wapello.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bob and Allen BAILEY; and six sisters, Dorothy SNEDDON, Mary ELLIS, Virgilene KAMMERER, Betty FOOR, Emma RUPE and Nancy BAILEY.
