Doris L. SECOR

Doris L. SECOR, 86, of Keosauqua died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, in the emergency room of Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.

A memorial service is at 10 a.m. Friday at Zion Bible Church in Douds, with the Rev. Michael Mosier officiating. The body has been cremated following tissue donations to Iowa Donor Network. Burial of cremains will be in Purdom Cemetery in Keosauqua.

Visitation will open at 3 p.m. Thursday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with family present from 5-7 p.m., followed by a brief memorial service with Mosier officiating.

Ms. SECOR was born Dec. 16, 1926, in Keosauqua, the daughter of Arthur J. and Julia WARDEN SECOR.

She graduated from Keosauqua High School and Iowa State University and took additional training at Biblical Theological Seminary in Hatfield, Pa., and Faith Baptist Bible College in Ankeny.

She taught at Maranatha Baptist Bible College, Watertown, Wis., and Van Buren community schools.

She served as a Christian missionary in Brazil and many years in the Philippine Islands.

Upon returning to Keosauqua, she became an active member of Zion Bible Church in Douds where she served as pianist and organist.

She was active in the Bentonsport Improvement Association where she served as long-time secretary, and the Van Buren County Historical Society where she conducted tours of Pearson House, a Keosauqua landmark.

She was a member of Town and Country Garden Club and Van Buren County Retired School Personnel.

She volunteered at Good Samaritan Center in Keosauqua and in the Van Buren High School music department.

She played in Southeast Iowa Symphony as well as for many civic events and gave private violin and piano lessons.

Survivors include several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Kenneth SECOR and two infant siblings.
