Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, Free Press, June 19, 1921,
Saturday morning about 10:50 o’clock the death of Mr. S. S. Ross who lived on s. Jefferson Street. Mr. Ross had been sick only three days although his death was not totally unexpected. He was 82 years old in May, being born in Jefferson County, although he made Henry County his home most of his life. He was an old soldier, a member of the Fourth Iowa Calvary, Co. M. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, Mrs. S. S. Ross, two daughters, Mrs. Arthur Riley of Ottumwa and Anna at home, and two sons, Lon and Smith Ross, both of Nebraska City, Nebraska, also one son Steward preceded him in death about two years ago. He also leaves one sister and grandchildren besides many other relatives and friends who will mourn the death of this good man.
