A telegram has been received by J. N. SMITH of this city announcing the death of his sister, Mrs. Mary Jane NEWMAN, from heart disease, at Orange, Cal., the 13th inst. Mrs. NEWMAN was 65 years of age. She was a member of one of the oldest families of Jefferson County, her father, Greenup SMITH, being the first treasurer of the county. Her husband, John H. NEWMAN of Santa Rosa, Cal., and Ollie, a son living in Alaska, survive her.
