"FOUND DYING IN HIS CHAIR. Alfred Caviness, an old resident of city and county. . . . .Mr. Caviness was born in Chatham County, North Carolina, April 17th, 1818. When a young man he removed to Hendricks County, Ind., and was there married to Achsah Osborn, December 23d, 1841. They went to Texas in 1847, returned to Indiana in 1848, and came to this county in 1850. Eleven children were born to them, seven of whom are now living. Two sons, Robert M. and Richard M. reside in this county. Another son, George W. Caviness, president of Young College, South Lancaster, Mass., was present at the funeral. Mrs. Caviness died in this city, January 3d, 1892. The remains were interred Monday in Bethesda cemetery, east of the city, Rev. E. L. Schreiner conducting the services."
