Monday, Nov. 26, 1973T. WHITAKER Dies at 95
Thomas Arthur WHITAKER, 95, one of Fairfield's oldest residents, died Sunday afternoon at the Nelson Nursing Home where he had been a patient since December, 1968.
Services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Bartruff officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7:30 to 9 p.m.
WHITAKER was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County. He was born Feb. 18, 1878 in a log cabin south of Batavia, the son of William W. and Sarah Jane LAUGHLIN WHITAKER. He was married to Myrtle Amanda JOHNSON March 12, 1902. She died Aug. 16, 1961.
WHITAKER was an active farmer until 1968. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by the following children: Mrs. Hazel NELSON, Des Moines; Darrell WHITAKER and Leland "Jack" WHITAKER, both of Fairfield; and Wayne WHITAKER of Florida. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one brother, John T. WHITAKER, Tracy, Calif.
He was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.
