LIFE OF LESLIE BATES

Leslie BATES, son of Mr. and Mrs. William BATES, of three and a half miles north of Fairfield, passed away Monday morning, April 23d. The end came as the result of an illness which began six weeks before. Leslie had not been in very rugged health for some time past, but possibly through overwork, he was taken ill about six weeks ago ond (sic) confined to his bed. Since then he had gradually become weaker, until the end came and relieved him of is pain and suffering.

Leslie was born on November 7th, 1895, being at the time of his death 21 years, 5 months and 15 days of age. Besides his sorrowing parents he is survived by one brothed (sic) Ralph BATES, and one half-brother, Ernie BATES.

Leslie was a good boy and gave promise of being a very useful man. At the time of his death he was looking forward to the establishment of a home of his own. He was very industrious, often working beyond his strength, being interested in the affairs of his parents. He was a loving, dutiful son and a strong bond of affection existed between him and his parents. He was also a Christian young man, having come forward during the special meetings held by A. K. Harper in Fairfield in 1915. He joined the Methodist church at Fairfield and has been a faithful and consistent member ever since.

The funeral services were held from the home of his parents on Wednesday morning, April 25th, in charge of his pastor W. R. Keesey, assisted by the pastor of his parents Rev. R. H. Polly. The services were attended by many friends. The hymns "Safe in the Arms of Jesus," and "God Be With You Till We Meet Again," were sung at the request of Leslie made just before he passed away. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery.
