February 12, 2004Lonnie J. Stone Jr., 82, of Douds died at 4:29 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004, at Hospice House in Ottumwa.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, with the Rev. David Albert officiating. Burial with military rites by John Hyson Reneker Post, American Legion will be in Leando Cemetery.
Open visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with family present 6:30-8 p.m.
Memorials to Hospice House of Ottumwa may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 14776 First St., Douds 52551.
Mr. Stone was born Sept. 28, 1921, near Fairfield, the son of Lonnie J. and Gladys Adler Stone. He married Rosa Juanita Brown Aug. 30, 1941, in Memphis, Mo.
Mr. Stone was a construction foreman for Schmidt Construction Company in Winfield and farmed in Davis County, southwest of Selma until retiring in Douds. He served in the United States Army in Europe during World War II.
He was a past commander of John Hyson Reneker Post No. 494, American Legion in Douds.
Survivors include his wife; six daughters, Carol Ehret of Fairfield, Shirley White of Troy, Esther Goodwin of Toledo, Iowa, Roberta Ludwick of Warsaw, Ill., Cindy Brown of Cantril and Kathy Humble of Agency; three sons, Lonnie Stone III of Osceola, Charlie Stone of Douds and Harley Stone of Libertyville; 21 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one brother, Edward Stone of Douds; and two sisters, Norma Orman of Keosauqua and Betty Steele of Floris.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Jane Hudak; and one grandson.
