Leonard Frank RAINS, 86, passed from this life on Monday, July 8, 2013, in Johnston, IA.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2013, at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel. A Graveside service with Military Rites will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 12, 2013, at Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield, IA.
Leonard was born on March 21, 1927, in Fairfield, IA to Robert and Helen (FORNEY) RAINS.
He graduated from Fairfield High School.
Leonard served in the U.S. Navy during the World War II (sic).
He married Lelah OGDEN on August 20, 1948, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA.
Leonard attended Parsons College, earned is (sic) bachelors degree at Cedar Falls and masters plus 30 hours at Drake University.
Leonard taught industrial arts at North High, Franklin Jr. High, and Des Moines Tech.
He was a member of the Masonic Acanthus Lodge No. 632 for over 50 years.
He will be missed by his loving wife, Lelah RAINS of Johnston; son, Larry (Sue) RAINS of Venice, FL; daughter, Lynda (Don) STEPHENS of Smithville, TX; granddaughter, Christy Sue RAINS of Ankeny; sister, Karen (Gordon) FORDYCE of Davenport; brother, Robert (Beulah) RAINS of Birmingham.
He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Edythe Joyce GRABY of Fairfield; brother-in-laws (sic), Lyndon OGDEN of Pocahontas, AK, Robert (Joan) OGDEN of Fairfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Helen RAINS-GOHN; son, Lynn RAINS; sister, Dorothy BARROW; brother, Clarence RAINS; and brother-in-law, John OGDEN.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Hospice-Johnston. Online condolences may be shared at www.IlesCares.com.
Arrangements are being handled by Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel in Des Moines, Iowa.
