Leland O. "Dutch Creek" Sheetz, 85, of Washington, Iowa, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at Veterans Hospital in Iowa City.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Jones-Eden Funeral Home in Washington, Iowa, with the Rev. Kitch Shatzer officiating. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington.

Visitation began at 9 a.m. today at the funeral home, with the family present from 4-6 p.m. Military honors will be conducted at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to veterans organizations.

Mr. Sheetz was born Jan. 13, 1919, in Keota, the son of Otto and Berniece Long Sheetz. He married Rosalie Combs in 1945. She died in 1977. He later married Mary Carey Norton April 25, 1986, in Burlington.

Mr. Sheetz was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army. He farmed all of his life in Washington County, retiring in 1986. During his retirement, he assisted his wife in operating the Grandma House Restaurant.

He was a member of American Legion.

Survivors include his wife; one son, James Sheetz and wife Angie of Keota; one daughter, Julie Wells and husband Dick of West Chester; one stepdaughter, Cathy Whisler and husband Stephen of Washington; one stepson, Dennis Norton of Washington; four grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; 10 stepgreat-grandchildren; and two sisters, Eloise Hazen of Washington and Helen Boyko of Colorado Springs, Colo.

Besides his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Dorothy Young.
