KURKA rites Wednesday

Ralph J. KURKA, 72, former longtime restaurant operator in Fairfield, died at 3:35 a.m. today at the Ottumwa Hospital in Ottumwa following surgery.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. William J. Sullivan officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Prayers for a Christian Wake will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Raymond Funeral Home.

Ralph J. KURKA was born Aug. 8, 1906, in Jefferson Co., the son of Phillip and Agnes SUPALLA KURKA. He spent his entire life in Jefferson County, was a veteran of World War II, and operated the Kurka's Cafe in Farifeld downtown area for a number of years. He closed the restaurant in June, 1973.

He was amember (err) of St. Mary Catholic Church, Elks, Eagles and VFW. He was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He lived at 404 W. Broadway.

KURKA is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Mary LIBE, Washington; Gertrude O'NEILL, New Orleans, La.; Ethel WAUGH, Burlington; George, Billings, Mont.; Ray, Alice and Victor, all of Fairfield.

He was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.
