Lester Wayne MAYER

Lester Wayne MAYER, 86, of Haleyville, Ala., died Friday, May 24, 2013, at Walker Baptist Medical Center in Jasper, Ala.

A service will be held in Iowa at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Haleyville First United Methodist Church in Haleyville.

Mr. MAYER was born June 4, 1926.

He was a member of Haleyville First United Methodist Church.

He was known for his woodworking, stained glass work and skill with small engines.

Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Anna Marie MAYER; two sons, Steve MAYER and Craig MAYER and Freda; one daughter, Debbie CRAMBLIT and Dirk; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Roger MAYER; and one sister, Marlene HABEL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Cecil MAYER; and brother, Ted MAYER.

Lester Wayne MAYER

Lester Wayne MAYER, 86, of Haleyville, Ala., died Friday, May 24, 2013, at Walker Baptist Medical Center in Jasper, Ala.

A celebration of life service is 1-3 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Fairfield. The body has been cremated. A graveside service will follow the celebration at Oakridge Cemetery in rural Washington, Iowa.

The MAYER family will be at the Central Park Community Center in Washington, Iowa, at 5 p.m. Saturday for visitation.

Mr. MAYER was born June 4, 1926, the son of George and Cecil MAYER. He married Phyllis HINKLE Nov. 6, 1949. They divorced in 1982. He married Marie BALES in 1993.

He graduated from West Chester High School and served in the U.S. Army.

He lived in Fairfield more than 30 years.

Mr. MAYER worked for the Jefferson County Secondary Roads Department.

He moved to Alabama from Fairfield.

He was a member of Haleyville First United Methodist Church.

He was known for his woodworking, stained glass work and skill with small engines.

Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Anna Marie MAYER; two sons, Steve MAYER of Costa Rica and Craig MAYER and spouse Freda of Bentonville, Ark.; one daughter, Debbie CRAMBLIT and spouse Dirk of Agency; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Roger MAYER; and one sister, Marlene HAVEL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Cecil MAYER; one brother, Ted MAYER; and two infant siblings.
