Dorothy M. SMITH, 95, of Batavia, died at 2:25 a.m. Thursday, March 28, 2013, at Pleasant Manor Nursing Home in Mount Pleasant.

Arrangements are pending at Grace Funeral Care in Batavia.

Dorothy M. SMITH

Dorothy M. SMITH, age 95 of Batavia, passed away at 2:25 AM, Thursday, March 28, 2013, at Pleasant Manor Nursing Home in Mount Pleasant.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, April 2 at the Batavia United Methodist Church in Batavia, with Pastor Jena Manchester officiating. Burial will be in Batavia Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be from 5:30 to 7:00 Monday evening at Grace Funeral Care in Batavia.

Dorothy Mae was born on October 24, 1917, in Batavia, the daughter of Ray and Mabel CURRY FRESCOLN.

She was educated in Batavia, graduating from Batavia High School. Dorothy then attended Parsons College, where she earned her teaching degree. She married Leo Graber SMITH, and he preceded her in death on November 12, 2005.

Survivors include one son, Robert SMITH of Batavia; one granddaughter, Donna MAUCK of Fairfield; one grandson, Todd JONES of Batavia; eight great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter Patricia JONES, one great-great-grandson Hayden troy HARRIS, and two sisters, Marjorie STEVENSON and Erma STEVENSON.

Dorothy was a homemaker and farm wife. Prior to her marriage she taught school in Corydon. She was very active in the community in TTT, Eastern Star, and as a volunteer at the Batavia Library. Dorothy was a member of the Batavia United Methodist Church.

Dorothy loved the outdoors, and enjoyed gardening, working with livestock, weiner roasts and throwing wonderful birthday parties for her family.

A memorial fund is being established for the Pleasant Manor Activity Fund.

Dorothy M. SMITH, 95, of Batavia, died Thursday, March 27, 2013.

Survivors include granddaughter Julie Elizabeth HALBUR and spouse Denny of Coon Rapids, and grandson Thomas ROBERT and spouse Becky of Des Moines.
