Lois ELLSWORTH TERRY

Lois TERRY, 97, of Fairfield died Tuesday morning February 5, 2013 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City following a stroke.

Lois was under the extremely tender attention of Palliative Care at the hospital.

Lois was born on October 17, 1915 in Ashland, Kansas to Clyde ELLSWORTH and Myrtle STONE. She grew up in the Ashland area and graduated from Ashland High School in 1933.

She worked at the Farm Bureau for several years after graduation until her youngest brother was out of high school.

She enlisted in the WACS and went to boot camp at Camp Dodge in Des Moines in 1942. After further Finance training at Camp Benjamin, she was sent to Camp Upton in New York and assigned to payroll, where she met Patrick TERRY.

They were married a year later at The Little Church Around the Corner in New York City on August 2, 1944.

She started her family and was discharged from active service in October of 1944 with the WAC Service Medal and a Good Conduct medal.

She bore three boys on her journey across the country with her husband, Pat. The oldest, Ronald, was born in Ashland, Kansas, the second, Stephen, in Helena, Montana, and the third, Walter, in Spokane, Wa. She settled and raised her family in Yakima, Wa. from 1954 to 2007.

Lois was very active in the Garden Club, the First Christian Church and was a Regional Master Bridge player with 560 Master Points. She volunteered at the Interfaith Mission until she stopped driving at age 90.

She moved to Fairfield, Iowa in 2007 and to Sunnybrook Assisted Living Center in 2011.

She is survived by her sons, Ronald TERRY of Yakima, Wa. and Stephen TERRY, his wife Sheila and her grandchildren Dallas and Celia TERRY, all of Fairfield.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Patrick, her son Walter Patrick TERRY, a grandson, Michael CARLTON as well as by her three brothers and her three sisters. It will be a large, happy reunion.
