Kermit Stanley OSWALT, 101, of Richland, died Thursday January 31, 2013, at Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield following a brief illness.
He was under the care of his family and Hospice Compassus of Cedar Rapids. Kermit was born December 23, 1911, in Brighton to Victor and Carrie SMITH OSWALT.
He grew up in the Brighton area and graduated from Brighton High School in 1931. Kermit married Leanna Irene SAUNDERS on June 2, 1935, in Brighton. She died July 31, 1993.
He joined Standard Oil Co. in 1934 at Richland as an agent delivering bulk fuels and oils and retired in 1974.
Kermit was very active in the Richland community as a member of the Richland Fire Department, Richland School Board, Richland Building Corporation, Richland Community Club and attended of the Richland United Methodist Church (sic).
He moved to Sunnybrook Assisted Living Center in Fairfield in August 2010.
He is survived by his daughter Sherry COBB (Bill) of Richland, grandson Mark COBB (Laurie) of Brighton, granddaughter Angela COBB KORDEK of Grayslake, IL and great grandson Lee COBB of Richland.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Irene.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday February 5, 2013, at Gould Funeral Home in Richland with Rev. Carl Benge officiating. Burial will be in Richland Friends Cemetery.
Visitation at Gould Funeral Home in Richland will open at 3 P.M. Monday afternoon with the family present 5:30 to 7:00 P.M.
Memorials to the Richland Fire Department, Richland United Methodist Church or Paws & More Animal Shelter in Washington may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 411 West Main Street, Richland, IA 52585.
