KURKA Rites To Be Wednesday

Edward F. KURKA, 78, retired carpenter and contractor, died at 12:45 a.m. today at the Jefferson County Hospital where he had been a patient since Sunday.

Funeral service will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Mary Catholic Church with Father Karl Holtkamp officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Raymond Funeral Home.

Edward F. KURKA was born May 12, 1894, in Jefferson County near Pleasant Plain. He was the son of Stephen P. and Agnes SUPALLA KURKA, and was reared and educated in Jefferson County.

His marriage to Beatrice SCHRACK took place Nov. 7, 1922, in Fairfield. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, served in the armed forces during World War I, and was a carpenter most of his life.

In addition to his widow, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Robert JOHNSTON, Fairfield; and four sons, James, Robert, Richard and Joseph, all of Fairfield.

He is also survived by four sisters and five brothers: Mrs. Lawrence LIBE, Washington; Mrs. Bernard O'NEILL, Mobile, Ala.; Mrs. William WAUGH, Burlington; Alice KURKA, Fairfield; Ray, Ralph and Victor, all of Fairfield; John, Burlington; and George, Billings, Montana.

He was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.
