Herschel Glen ROBINSON

Herschel Glen ROBINSON, 86, of Birmingham, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Center in Keosauqua.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Raymond Funeral Home in Birmingham, with the Rev. Larry Shipley officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Birmingham.

Visitation with the family present will be from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Birmingham Fire Department.

Arrangements are in the care of the Raymond Funeral Home in Birmingham. Online condolences may be sent to www.raymondfuneralhomes.com.

Mr. ROBINSON was born Jan. 14, 1926, in Dexter, Mo., the son of George Lewis and Minnie DELL ROBINSON. He married Verna Louise SCOTTON Dec. 25, 1947, at the Christian church in Keosauqua. They later divorced. She died April 15, 1996.

Mr. ROBINSON served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 until 1946.

He moved to southeast Iowa following his military service. He moved to Birmingham in 1953.

He farmed and worked at The Dexter Company in Fairfield until his retirement in 1975. He owned and operated the Birmingham Café from 1979 until 1992.

Survivors include three sons, Hershel G. ROBINSON of Keosauqua, Clarence C. ROBINSON of Birmingham and Jack R. ROBINSON and wife Colette of Kansas City, Kan.; one daughter, Sandra Louise CIGICH and husband Jerry of Kansas City, Kan; three sisters, Goldie De BEOUF of Kentucky, Pansey WILKERSON of Cahokia, Ill. and Daisy POE of Farmington, Mo.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers; and four sisters.
