EDWARD GORREL (sic) DIED WEDNESDAY

Edward GORRELL died yesterday shortly after noon at the home of his parents Rev. and Mrs. I. H. GORRELL on South Third street after an illness extending over a period of about two years. His death was due to tuberculosis.

James (sic - Joseph) Edward GORRELL was born in Colfax, Iowa, December 15, 1886. Several years ago he came with his parents to Fairfield and was at the time of his death well known and highly respected here. In December, 1907, he was married to Miss Hazel McDONALD of this city who with one child survives him. Mr. GORRELL was manager of the Western Union Telegraph Company here for a couple of years and later was employed by the Burlington railway company as agent at Russell, Iowa.

He was compelled to resign his position over a year ago on account of ill health and his family moved to this city where he sought rest for a time in the hopes that he would be benefited. Failing to gain in health Mr. and Mrs. GORRELL and little daughter went to Texas for a few months but he became steadily worse and was brought home a couple of weeks ago.

Mr. GORRELL was a bright and talented young man whose death will be sincerely regretted by scores of friends. He leaves to mourn his death his wife and daughter, his parents Rev. and Mrs. I. H. GORTELL (sic) and one brother Burton and two sisters, Miss Lucille at home and Mrs. Charles ANTHONY of Granite City, Ill. The funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at two o'clock at the GORRELL home. Dr. Thomas Osborne will conduct the services.

GORRELL----Joseph Edward, oldest son of I. H. & Olive GORRELL, was born in Colfax, Iowa, December 15, 1886.

He attended the public schools of Fairfield, whither he had moved with his parents, but left the school after taking one year in the high school.

He began the study of telegraphy at about the age of fourteen and at sixteen he was proficient enough to begin his work as an operator.

He was united in marriage to Miss Jennie L. McDONALD, December 16, 1907. One child, a daughter, was born to them. He is survived by his father and mother, two sisters, Mrs. Chas. ANTHONY, of Granite City, Ill., and Lucille, of this city, and one brother, Burton, also of Fairfield, and the wife and daughter. Soon after his marriage he went to Russell as an operator. While here he united with the Methodist Episcopal church, retaining his membership until his death. From Russell he removed to Murray, Iowa, and from thence to Peoria, Ill.

He was taken ill in February, 1910, with the dreadd (sic) "White Plague." In April of this year he went to Texas, but was not benefited by the change. Returning recently, he rapidly declined and death came to his release, at 12:20 p.m. Thursday, August 8th.

One more death has been added to the roll of those who fought a brave but unavailing fight against the dread white plague--but when health fails and comfort goes with it and only weakness growing continually weaker and more and more helpless--then is death to be preferred and comes like the hand of a friend to the suffering body that it may go to the grave for its final rest.

Funeral services were held at the residence of his parents on South Third street Saturday, August 10, at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. Thos. Osborn, assisted by Rev. F. M. Smith.
