Evangeline Herrington Perry
December 09, 2003

Evangeline Herrington Perry, 52, passed away on December 7, 2003, at her home in Fairfield with care from family, friends and Hospice.

The memorial service will be held on Saturday (December 13) at 1 p.m. at St. Gabriel's Church with Father Tom Miller presiding. Immediately following (2:30 p.m.), there will be a Celebration of Evangeline's Life in the Assembly Hall at Maharishi School.

Evangeline was born November 6, 1951 in Oakland, California, the daughter of K.F. Herrington, Jr. and Dorothy Means Herrington both of Fayette, Missouri. She married Ron Perry on June 28, 1975.

Evangeline graduated from the University of Wisconsin in Madison with a degree in Occupational Therapy. She moved to Fairfield with her family in 1985. She began working at Maharishi Preschool in 1991. In 1995 she switched to Maharishi Lower School working mainly as a teacher's aide. Other responsibilities included developing the initial web site for the school and maintaining the math lab. Her favorite school related activity was her involvement in the creative program Odyssey of the Mind and Destination Imagination. This also included many volunteer hours over the 7 years of her participation in the program.

Evangeline enjoyed quilting, cross-stitching and crocheting. In her last year of her life she tried to complete a quilt for each of her children (along with help from her friends). She requested that, "Whoever I made something for, to bring it to the memorial service."

Evangeline was an avid reader which she passed on to all of the children. She knew countless children songs, which her children probably still remember. Her feeling that "You do not experience a place until you get your shoes dirty," led to family camping trips that included stays in over 25 states and 30 national parks. Finally, you might have seen her walking daily around the southern part of Fairfield with the Shetland sheep dog she trained, Minnie.

She is survived by her husband Ron; and her three children, Amanda, a recent graduate of Grinnell College; Andrew, currently a student at Maharishi University of Management; and Tegan, a student at Maharishi School; one sister, Mardee Henselman and husband Bob of Kirksville, Mo.; four brothers, Frank Waddell and wife Sue of Casper, Wyoming; Ken Herrington and wife Kathy of Louisville, Kentucky; Lewis Herrington and wife Jen of Issaquah, Washington; Geoff Herrington and wife Christine of Farmington, Missouri; her parents; and 24 nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, Evangeline's request was that donations be made to the Dharma Foundation (Dharma Foundation, 2280 West Tyler Ave., Fairfield Iowa 52556) to help all children that need assistance to attend Maharishi School.
