Jefferson County Republican, Fri. Apr. 8, 1910, p.5, col.3. William Woodside, one of the pioneer settlers Jefferson county died Wednesday afternoon, March 29, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Harrison Hoaglund, on South Sixth Street. William Albert Woodside was born in KY March 31, 1823 and at an early age moved with his parents to IL, residing there until he was about 21 years of age, when he came to Salem, IA and married Miss Martha Ann Warner. A short time after their marriage the young people came to Jefferson county and settled just northeast of Fairfield. Only about a dozen homes and buildings were erected in Fairfield at that time and both Mr. Woodside and his wife lived to see this village grow into one of the most beautiful little cities in this section of the state. Parents of 14 children, two girls and three boys with the with the mother having preceded Mr. Woodside in death, Mrs. Woodside having died abour seven years ago. After the death of his wife, Mr. Woodside moved to this city and made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Harrison Hoaglund. For a man of his years, Mr. W. was unusually active..If he had lived until March 31, he would have been 87 years of age.. Free Methodist Church.
