John I. DAVIDSON

John I. DAVIDSON, 74,of Batavia died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at the Jefferson County Hospital.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at People's Church of Batavia, with the Revs. Jack Jackson and Aaron Moss officiating. Burial will be in the Batavia Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by Walter B. Schafer VFW Post 775 and O.B. Nelson American Legion Post 3 of Ottumwa.

Open visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at the Kremer Funeral Home in Batavia. The family will be present from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the People's Church of Batavia, Hospice of Jefferson County or the National World War II memorial.

Mr. DAVIDSON was born June 2, 1927, in Afton, the son of Carl and Mary Louise MUNSON DAVIDSON. He married Marcene REID June 6, 1947, in Ottumwa. She preceded him in death Dec. 22, 1964. He then married Virginia MOORE PRICE March 10, 1967, in Florence, Ala.

He attended Bumblebee rural school in Wapello County and later attended Batavia High School. He worked for Meadowgold Dairy in Ottumwa and later for Kermit Black's Dairy in Batavia. He began farming in 1947 in Wapello and Jefferson Counties where he lived his entire adult life. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II where he served on an aircraft carrier.

He attended the People's Church of Batavia, was a member of the Eagles Club in Ottumwa, VFW Post 2271 of Fairfield, W.C. Harness American Legion Post No. 667 of Batavia and the Jefferson County Farm Bureau.

He is survived by his wife; three sons Jim DAVIDSON of New London, John DAVIDSON of Mount Pleasant and Bill PRICE of Naples, Fla.; three daughters Marsha BREWINGTON of Mount Pleasant, Jeanetta MAYNARD of Storm Lake and Carol WILKINSON of Batavia; 19 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one brother Carl DAVIDSON of Fairfield.

Besides his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one brother Jimmy DAVIDSON; one sister Marylou SHIRKEY; and one granddaughter.
