Tuesday, July 6, 1948 - Page 1, Col. 8FORMER LOCAL RESIDENT DIES BY DROWNING
A former resident of Fairfield and a veteran of World War II lost his life by drowning near, Peoria, Illinois, during the Fourth of July weekend. He was George William HARRISON, who fell from a boat while fishing with a friend.
The body will be returned to Fairfield and funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon. The services will be at the Hoskins funeral home at 2 p.m. with Rev. S. P. Williamson in charge. Burial will be in the Abingdon cemetery. The body was scheduled to arrive here today.
Only minor details had been received at noon regarding the drowning accident. The undertaker was told that HARRISON and a friend were fishing near Peoria. HARRISON reportedly became entangled in a rope, or some lines, and fell from the boat.
George William HARRISON, 37, was born September 12, 1910, in Jefferson county, the son of John A. and Cora May BROWN HARRISON. He was united in marriage to Martha BURKE, who preceded him in death July 1, 1942.
He was survived by three children, George W., Sandra May and Danny. He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. John HARRISON, and the following borthers and sisters: Guy, Andrew and Floyd, all of Fairfield; Ralph, Libertyville; Mrs. Will KIEWS and Mrs. Hollis HUFFMAN, Packwood; Mrs. Gaylord HERMAN, Hedrick; and Mrs. Bill ALLISON, Libertyville.
(I research the HARRISON/ALLISON lines.)
