Ardell J. HAHN

Ardell J. HAHN, 92, of Brighton, died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, at SunnyBrook Living Care Center in Fairfield.

A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Pleasant Plain, with the Rev. Robert Striegel officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in East Pleasant Plain.

Visitation is 4-6 p.m. Sunday at St. Joseph Church, followed by prayers for a Christian wake beginning at 6 p.m.

Memorials to St. Joseph Cemetery may be left at the church or mailed to the family at 2568 110th Street, Brighton 52540.

Arrangements are in the care of Gould Funeral Home of Brighton.

Mr. HAHN was born July 12, 1920, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Charles L. and Agnes B. KASKA HAHN. He married Maxine LEDGER in East Pleasant Plain Jan. 10, 1948. She died Jan. 31, 1998.

He grew up in East Pleasant Plain and graduated from Pleasant Plain High School in 1938.

He farmed and worked in the core room at The Dexter Foundry in Fairfield for more than 30 years.

He was a member of SS. Joseph and Cabrini Church and cemetery board.

He served as a 4-H leader, coached baseball and was a member of the Brighton Lions Club.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, having served in the South Pacific.

Survivors include two daughters, Diane MANCHESTER and Christy SWITZER and spouse Ron, all of Fairfield; four sons, Larry HAHN and spouse Kelly of Fairfield, Pat HAHN and spouse Gail of Burr Ridge, Ill., Dan HAHN and spouse Karen of Davenport and Nick HAHN and spouse Mary Ann of Brighton; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Ken, Dale and Harold; and one sister, Bertelle HAHN.
