Ed DROBNY

Ed DROBNY, 92, of 3000 Madison Ave. died at 12:10 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003, at Jefferson County Hospital.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Jan Burns-Hintze officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Masonic rites will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Raymond Funeral Home, with visitation following from 6:30-8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Scholarship Fund, the Clinton Masonic Lodge No. 15 of Iowa or a charity of the donor's choice.

Mr. DROBNY was born April 19, 1911, the son of John J. and Marie DROBNY. He married Ruth EMLEY Jan. 19, 1935, in Martin, S.D.

Mr. DROBNY grew up on a farm near Comstock, Neb. He received his elementary education in a one-room school and graduated from Comstock High School in 1927. He then entered the University of Nebraska Engineering College and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering during the Depression. He worked for John Deere in Ottumwa until 1941, when they moved to Fairfield and he worked at Louden Machinery Company. During his lifetime, he operated Drobnys Rapid Gas Service in Tama, owned a Gambles Hardware Store in Washington, Iowa, and operated a Dairy Queen and was a manager of a low-income housing development, both in Pella.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Lions Club, Masonic Lodge and the Howard Johnson Coffee Club. His pastimes included fishing and golf.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Robert DROBNY and wife Phyllis of Cedar Rapids, Don DROBNY and wife Susie of Hilton Head Island, S.C., and Charles DROBNY and wife Terri of Fairfield; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
