RICHARD M. HARNESS

Richard Mack HARNESS, 81, of 401 E. Kirkwood St., Fairfield, died at noon March 8, 1997, at the Jefferson County Hospital, Fairfield.

He was born April 22, 1915, in Birmingham to Henry Mack and Claudia FICKEL HARNESS. He married Leona F. WILLIAMS on July 25, 1936, at the Methodist Church in Fairfield. She died Jan. 22, 1992.

He attended Birmingham schools and moved to Jefferson County in 1937. He was employed at Dexter Foundary for 32 years and worked 11 years as the caretaker of the Fairfield city parks. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy in World War II. He was a member of the American Legion No. 47 and V.F.W. Post No. 2271 in Fairfield.

He is survived by a sister, Wilda CORRY of Birmingham.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bob HARNESS.

The service was held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 1997 at Behner Funeral Home, the Rev. David Kennedy officiating. The body was cremted following the service with burial at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.

Memorials may be made to the Fairfield Park and Recreation Department.
