BATAVIA -- Lois I. BLACK, 76, rural Batavia, died Frdiay, Sept. 20, 1991, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
BLACK was born Nov. 15, 1914, in Woodburn, the daughter of John and Juanita DANELS HOLZHAUSER. On April 23, 1936, she married the Rev. Kermit BLACK in Ottumwa. He survives.
BLACK was reared and educated in Farson and graduated from Farson High School in 1933. She and her husband were the founders of the People's Church of Batavia. She was active in most church functions, serving as an organist, pianist and Bible school coordinator. She was a member of the People's Church, the Hickory Ridge Homemakers Club of Batavia and the Dorcas Club of Abingdon.
Surviving is a brother, Denver HOLZHAUSER of Hedrick; one daughter, Dixie JAMISON of Ottumwa; a son, Darrell BLACK of Dakota City; and four grandchildren. She is preceded in death by a brother, Dallas; and a sister, Cissy.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the People's Church of Batavia, with the Rev. Jack Jackson officiating. The body will be in state at the People's Church, with open visitation beginning after 1 p.m. Sunday. Family visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, also at the church. Burial will be in the Batavia Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the church, or the Kidney Care Unit of the Iowa Methodist Center. Campbell-Kramer Funeral Home of Batavia is in charge of arrangements.
