Services for Clarence L. "Joe" LAWSON (sic. Leo is the middle name), 76, of Lufkin, will be held at 4:00 p.m., Monday in the Henderson Chapel with Rev. Charles Roberts, Rev. David Hicks, and Rev. Keith Whitaker officiating. Entombment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mr. LAWSON was born on October 11, 1920, in Fairfield, Iowa, and he died Friday, February 28, 1997, in a Lufkin hospital.
Mr. LAWSON had served in the United States Army during World War II in the 191st General Hospital Division in Paris, France. He married Julia KIRBY LAWSON (sic. Julia Claggett KIRBY LAWSON) on February 28, 1953 in Arlington, Virginia, and they had 44 years of blessed marriage. Mr. LAWSON had been employed as a disability retirement analyst for the United States Air Force for 38 years. After that, he was employed as a carpenter in the Maintenance Department of the Lufkin Independent School District. Mr. LAWSON formerly resided in San Antonio from 1963 to 1979, and he then moved to Lufkin where he lived for the past 18 years.
Survivors include his wife, Julia KIRBY LAWSON of Lufkin; son, David Clarence LAWSON of Lufkin; and sister, Charlesia HUGHES of Kerrville.
Pallbearers will be Pat Edwards, Woody Gann, Marshall Lee, Kye Lee, Don East, and Allen Waltman.
Memorials may be made to the Music Department at the Denman Avenue Baptist Church or to First Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.

Note: Clarence was a son of Charles Daniel LAWSON and Lora Inez BURNETT LAWSON, both of whom are buried in Old Fairfield City cemetery, Fairfield, Iowa.
