OLD RESIDENT DIED MONDAY.

James MONTGOMERY, Civil War veteran, has answered last roll call.... died yesterday afternoon at his home on E. Lowe St..... Born in this county near Salina in 1841 (sic - 1840 on his gravestone) and has spent most of his life here. (Born in Penn Twp., son of Solomon and Elizabeth MONTGOMERY; parents died in his early life; reared by uncle William MONTGOMERY.) May 6, 1859 married Miss Louisa (sic - Loisa) PHEASANT who was the daughter of the first settlers in Walnut township who arrived there in the spring of 1839. Mr. and Mrs. MONTGOMERY made their home in Penn township near Pleasant Plain until about 12 years ago when they moved to this city. Survived by his aged wife and six children: B. J. who resides near Pleasant Plain; E. C. of Oklahoma City; Miss Myra of Chicago; and Misses Perela, Ada and Laceja who are at home. Member George Strong Post G. A. R...... Evergreen Cemetery.

Admin. note: The G.A.R. is the Grand Army of the Republic, the fore-runner of the American Legion. Buried in Lot 2nd.147 with wife Loisa who died in 1917.
