Dorothy Mae HICKENBOTTOM

Dorothy Mae HICKENBOTTOM, 70, of rural Batavia, died at 6:45 a.m. Sunday, June 20, 1993, at Jefferson County Hospital.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church with the Rev. Robert Gates officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Open visitation begins at noon Tuesday at Behner Funeral Home with the family present from 7 to 8 that night. Memorials have been established to American Cancer Society and First Christian Church.

Mrs. HICKENBOTTOM was born Oct. 17, 1922, west of Birmingham in Van Buren County, the daughter of Jerry and Sylvia J. FORD WELLS. Her adopted parents were Raymond H. and Gertrude FAULKNER SMITH. She graduated from Fairfield High School in 1940, and married Leslie L. HICKENBOTTOM on Sept. 29 that same year in the First Christian Church. A lifelong resident of Jefferson County, she assisted her husband on the farm, was a member of First Christian Church, taught Sunday school, was a member of Cross Lanes Club and a former member of TTT.

Surviving are her husband; a son, Fred L. of Libertyville; two daughters, Mary Sue WILSON of Batavia, Jane Ann NICHOLAS of Gilbert; three grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; 24 step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-grandchild; her father; two sisters, Virginia WELLS of Keosauqua, Judy SHOEMATE of Huntsville, Ark.; two half-sisters, Louise OSBORN of Arkansas and Betty CLARK of Colo. Her mother, adopted parents, a brother, Richard, and a stepgrandson preceded her in death.
