William 'Bill' PORTER

William "Bill" L. PORTER, 70, Route 3, died at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, June 17, 1990, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. Harold Harryman officiating. Burial will be in Fell Cemetery at Libertyville. Family visitation is 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials have been established to Faith United Methodist Church in Libertyville and the Heart Association.

PORTER was born June 13, 1920, at Blanchard, N.C., the son of Fredrick L. and Flora J. ABBOTT PORTER. When he was 9 months old, his family moved to a farm southwest of Fairfield, where he lived the rest of his life. He attended rural schools and graduated from Libertyville High School in 1937. He served in the Army in Europe in World War II. A farmer all his adult life, his operation included raising angus cattle. He was active in 4-H work, served on the county fair board for many years, was a longtime and current director on the Libertyville Savings Bank Board, and was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Libertyville. He was a gardener and traveler. He married Marjorie Frances HARRYMAN Jan. 11, 1946, in the chapel of First United Methodist Church in Fairfield. She survives.

Also surviving are a son, Richard of Fairfield; a daughter, Sandra CLOUGH of Burnsville, Minn., and four grandchildren. His parents, a sister, Amey GLOTFELTY and a daughter, Martha PORTER, preceded him in death.
