Death Takes Miss O'NEILL

Nelda C. O'NEILL, 81, retired registered nurse, died at 5:25 a.m. today at the Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield.

Miss O'NEILL resided at 205½ N. Third St. She entered the hospital July 6.

Services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church with Father Karl Holtkamp officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Prayers for a Christian Wake will be recited Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Raymond Funeral Home.

Miss O'NEILL was born Oct. 30, 1891 in Havana, Ill., the daughter of John and Julia MALONEY (sic - or MAHONEY) O'NEILL. She graduated from St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in Ottumwa in 1925.

She was employed in Osceola for 27 years, serving as superintendent of Harkin Hospital. She then returned to Fairfield where she worked at the Jefferson County Hospital until her retirement.

She was a member of St. Mary Church, Altar and Rosary Society and local and district nurses organizations.

Surviving are the following brothers and sisters: P.L. O'NEILL, Fairfield; Bernard E. O'NEILL, Mobile, Ala.; Mrs. Ernest HOSKINSON, Woodward; and Mary O'NEILL, Ames.

Note: Buried in Lot 2nd.213 along with her parents, her sister Mary, and twin children of her brother Peter L. O'NEILL. Her mother's maiden name has been found as MALONEY in Peter's obituary and MAHONEY in the 1925 Jefferson County, IA, census for Peter; at this point it is not known which is correct.
