Last rites for Roland H. MARSH, prominent Fairfield resident who died in the veterans hospital at Des Moines yesterday will be held Saturday morning at the Hoskins funeral home.
The services will be at 10 a.m. with Father O. F. DeCoursey in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.
MARSH was a former long-time employe of the C.B.& Q. railroad. He retired in 1940 after 39 years of service with the company, 34 years of service in the local C.B.& Q. freight office after serving five years previously as a clerk.
A member of the Congregational church, his family home in Fairfield was located at 301 West Stone.
MARSH died at 2 p.m. Thursday at the veterans hospital in Des Moines where he had been a patient for the past 14 months.
He was born May 8, 1870, at Rochester, New Hampshire, the son of Rev. Alfred and Martha RAWSON MARSH. He came to Fairfield in 1890 from Illinois and had been a resident of this community since.
MARSH was a veteran of the Spanish American war, and served as secretary of the Spanish American Veterans club for a number of years. He was also a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Clerks at Burlington.
His wife, the former Theresa KLEINMAN, preceded her husband in death on May 24, 1948. He was also preceded in death by a son, Roland K. "Toody" MARSH, well known in this community, who died December 18, 1941.
He is survived by two sisters: Mrs. William MENDENHALL, Chamblee, Georgia; and Mrs. Raymond SMITH, Long Beach, California. He is also survived by one nephew and two nieces.
MARSH was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Walter.
