KILLED BY LIGHTNING

Word was received in this city last evening that Theodore CROWE was struck by lightning and instantly killed yesterday morning at his home in Okoboji, Iowa.

News of Mr. CROWE's death was a great shock to many friends here. Until about two years ago Mr. CROWE and family were residents in and near the city. They moved to Okoboji about two years ago where Mr. CROWE had secured a good position. During a severe rain storm yesterday morning Mr. CROWE was struck by lightning and instantly killed. He is survived by his grief stricken wife and four sons.

The remains will be brought to this city this evening on Burlington train No. 4 and the funeral will be held tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock at Saint Mary's Catholic church.

* Transcribed for genealogy purposes. I am not related to the person(s) mentioned.

Note: Theodore CROWE was born in Canada on January 27, 1851. He died in Okoboji, Iowa on June 17, 1908. Some sources inadvertently used June 24, 1908 for the DOD. Also, at least one source has been found that listed the 'Death Place' as "Center Grove, Iowa." That is somewhat misleading, implying a town of "Center Grove". In this case, "Center Grove" is actually a township of Dickinson county, in northern Iowa, in which the city of Okoboji is located.

Note:
Theodore CROWE, his wife Elizabeth C. ZMICH CROWE, and an infant daughter Mary Tracy CROWE are buried in unmarked graves in Old.P.219 of Evergreen cemetery.
