Page 4, Column 3Obituary. John Jacob REEDER, one of the oldest settlers in this neighborhood, died at his residence on Burr Oak, three miles southeast of Brighton, Wed. evening Apr. 26 aged 82y. & 4 m. He was born in Germany, emigrated to this country when a young man and settled in Ohio, where he was married and had two children Mary and Jacob, when his wife died. He married again and came to Iowa about 40 years ago and entered the farm in Walnut township which has been his home ever since. Four children by second wife, all survive him, the mother having died about four years ago (sic - Elizabeth, in 1882). The children are Mrs. Mary CULL, of Chariton; Jacob, deceased, who accidentally shot himself while on his way to California in 1862; Elisa, wife of Joe BALES; Caroline YANGER of Chariton; Thomas and Emma, wife of W. L. KNERR..... Interment at Lutheran Church, Germanville.
