Page 8, Column 2Jacob BOOS was born Sept. 11, 1835 in the village of Wichersheim, Alsace-Lorraine, which at that time as again today, belonged to France. However, by language and ancestry he was a German, together with many people of this buffer state. His parents were Michael BOOS and Catherine nee WEINMANN. According to a quaint old certificate, his name was written into the book of life in Holy Baptism, March 8, 1836.
When a young man he came over to this country about the year 1863 with his brother Mathias, and stayed in or around Buffalo, New York about a year. The westward urge brought him first to Illinois, then to Iowa, where he worked on the railroad through Lockridge. Soon after he bought a farm in Walnut township about four miles southeast of Brighton. Since then he has always lived in either Walnut or Lockridge townships.
Feb. 27, 1873, he was united in marriage with Caroline SCHNEIDER by Rev. Pfeister of Germanville.... two sons, Jacob and George. Jacob BOOS Sr., never rued the day that he decided to come to the land of his adoption. He loved America, especially the pioneering days... Some still remember him as he cradled the grain in the days of yesteryear... At 3 o’clock Sunday afternoon May 22, 1927, he very quietly passed over into eternity.... He was preceded in death by his brothers, Mathias, John, George and Michael, who died in infancy, and his sisters, Mary, Anna, Margaret and Catherine. Like the patriarchs of old, Jold BOOS died old and full of years.... He found his final resting place at the side of his wife in the Hope Lutheran Cemetery near Germanville.
I am not related to surname.
Admin. note: Wife Catherine died in 1921.
