Page 5 column 1MICHAEL H. HILDEBRAND...The harvest time had come and by means of the "Sickle Keen" a full ripe sheaf is gathered into the eternal granaries of God...The close of a long career ended peacefully when MICHAEL H. HILDEBRAND fell asleep March 21, at 9 p.m., almost 76 years of age. This long pilgrimage was begun at Hagerstown, Maryland, April 23, 1836. He was married to MARY KNERR in 1857, at Germanville, Iowa. To this union ten children were born, eight of whom are living. In answer to his country's call he volunteered in 1861 and received an honorable discharge at the close of the war. He was with Sherman to the sea.
He was sprinkled in the Catholic church in infancy but never adhered to that organization. Some five years ago he became deeply concerned in the things of God and thought at the eleventh hour, he finally became anxious to follow his Master into the liquid grave. Appreciating the teachings of the old school Baptists, he was accordingly baptized into the fellowship of that faith in May, 1909, by PASTOR B. L. NAY of Mediapolis, Iowa...He leaves as his widow here who walked to the marriage altar with him 55 years ago. The children are HENRY F., WM. A., FRED M., FRANK A., at home; MISS ELLEN of Ottumwa, MRS. ANNA HAAGLIN, Bon Island, Canada; MRS. MAGGIE BANE of Wayland, Iowa, MRS. ROSETTA HENDRICKS of California. Besides these there are six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Also one brother, MATHIAS, of Osceola, and a sister, MRS. ESHELMAN, of Mt. Pleasant..Interment took place at the Union cemetery near Germanville Saturday afternoon.
