BATAVIA -- Ernest HARTLEY, 76, Batavia, died at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday at the Jefferson County Hospital where he had been seriously ill for a week.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield with the Rev. Harold Baker officiating. Burial will be in the Batavia Cemetery.
Ernest HARTLEY was born May 11, 1906, at Unionville. He was the son of Leonard and Nancy GOOD HARTLEY. He was the youngest of 12 children.
He had made his home in Batavia the past five years after retiring from farming for over 41 years in the Glasgow Community.
He was married July 1, 1929 to Merle Marie MARTIN in Ottumwa, who survives.
In addition to his widow he is survived by two daughters, Irene FILSON, Birmingham, and Darlene WELLS, Batavia; six grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and a step great-grandson.
Three sisters also survive: Martha STEVENS, Coatsville, Mo; Hazel WORLEY, Bloomfield; and Betha STEVENS, Promise City. He was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.
