Frank P. BURKE Rites Tuesday

Frank P. BURKE, native of Jefferson county and a longtime resident of Fairfield, died at 1:45 a.m. Sunday at the Jefferson county hospital. He had been in failing health for the past two years and seriously ill the past two weeks.

Last rites will be Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the St. Mary Catholic church with the Rev. Cletus Madsen in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. The Rosary will be recited this evening at 8 p.m. at the Raymond funeral home.

Frank Paul BURKE, 82, was born July 29, 1883 in Perlee, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Mary IVORSKEY (sic - IVORSKI) BURKE. He was reared and educated in the Prairie Chapel community.

He was united in marriage on May 19, 1908, to Dorothea SHEMANSKI, who survives. They were the first couple married in the St. Mary Catholic church at Fairfield, which had just been completed.

BURKE was a member of the church, the Holy Name Society and was a molder at the Iowa Malleable Iron company for 38 years before his retirement.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by the following children: one daughter, Mrs. Joseph STRONG, Mt. Pleasant; four sons, Peter, Robert and Bernard, all of Fairfield, and Albert, Washington, D.C.

Other survivors include eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Phil of Brighton, and John of Chicago; five sisters, Mrs. Eva HENDRICKS, Fairfield; Mrs. Josephine PIERCE, Chicago; Helen GREESON, Michigan; Bertha SAMUELS, Minnesota; and Clara VAN BUENING, Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by one son, two brothers and two sisters.
