WALNUT TWP.

Found Dead on Couch.

Thomas J. GELSKI was found dead on the lounge at his home, twelve miles north of Fairfield, at 12:30 p.m. Monday, by his wife and son, who had just returned home from a visit with another son, Paul, near Washington. The body was still warm and he had evidently been dead only a few minutes when found. A doctor was summoned but nothing could be done. Death was apparently caused by a sudden attack of heart disease. Mr. GELSKI was alone in the house when death overtook him.

Mr. and Mrs. GELSKI and son, Henry, had been visiting at Washington for several days. Saturday Mr. GELSKI returned home to look after several things, leaving his wife and son to follow Monday. He was not feeling well Sunday but it was thought nothing serious. Monday morning his son Joe went over to the other place to do some work, leaving Thomas at home alone. While preparing his dinner he was suddenly taken sick and lay down on the lounge, where his wife was shocked to find him dead on her return only a few minutes later.

Thomas J. GELSKI was born in Velczo, Poland, in 1840, and came to this country with his parents when he was fourteen years of age. They moved to Pennsylvania, then to Canada, and from there to Michigan. In 1867 his parents and the younger children moved to Iowa and settled.

Mr. GELSKI had always enjoyed good health and his 69 years told on him lightly. He was a leading member of the Polish Catholic church near his place, where the funeral was held at 10 o'clock Thursday morning, in the presence of all the children, and a large concourse of sorrowing relatives, friends and neighbors. The funeral services were conducted by Mr. GELSKI's son, Father Francis GELSKI, of Chicago, assisted by Father Grodzenski, of Chicago, and Father Francis GELSKI also brought his own organist from his parish of Chicago, to assist with the services.
