SMITH rites on Saturday

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Behner Funeral Home for Marie Barbara SMITH, 80, who died Tuesday morning at University Hospitals in Iowa City.

The Rev. Wayne Bartruff will officiate and interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Marie Barbara SMITH was born Dec. 26, 1900, in Fairfield. She was the daughter of John E. and Olive GROVE TROMMER. She was married May 10, 1922, to Edward C. SMITH at Ottumwa. He died Sept. 30, 1961.

Mrs. SMITH spent most of her life in the Fairfield Community except the past 10 years when she lived in Tipton.

Survivors include three daughters and one son: Beverly McMILLAN, Peru, Ill.; Barbara JOHNSON, Des Moines; Alice DETERICH, Cedar Rapids and Edward C. SMITH, Jr., of Ankeny.

Other survivors include 12 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Alice B. FOSTER, Carlisle, Pa.; and Helen E. TROMMER, Santa Ana, Calif.; and Jack E TROMMER (sic. a/k/a John E. TROMMER), also of Santa Ana.

Note: Marie died on Tuesday, February 10, 1981. A obituary scrapbook collection inadvertently noted the wrong date for her obituary, leading to her DOD being given in a cemetery transcription as being February 9, 1981. Buried in Evergreen cemetery, Fairfield, Iowa. 2nd.052 1/2.
