McHARGUE rites Friday

Services for Naomi Oleatha McHARGUE, 63, who died early Tuesday at Ottumwa Regional Health Center, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. Clair Odell officiating. Burial will be in Bonaparte cemetery (sic. located in Van Buren County, Iowa). Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials have been established to the DAR and the Van Buren County Genealogical Society.

Mrs. McHARGUE was born June 29, 1923 in Mount Sterling, the daughter of Arthur F. and Nora Belle WALLINGFORD McCRACKEN. She married James R. CARTER Nov. 24, 1948. On July 10, 1970, she married William J. McHARGUE at Memphis, Mo. He survives.

Also surviving are her parents of Farmington; a son, John CARTER of Hudson, Fla.; a stepson, William J. McHARGUE II of Burlington; two stepdaughters, Tana MOSER of Okinawa, Japan, Tammy JOHN of Olathe, Kan.; three grandchildren; one stepgranddaughter; two sisters, Norreene SCHMITT of Farmington and Virginia MUNTZ of Fort Madison. One sister preceded her in death.

Mrs. McHARGUE had lived for 25 years in the Fairfield community and before that in Keosauqua. She was a homemaker and a member of Bonaparte Baptist Church, DAR, Rebekah Lodge 96, Ladies Encampment Auxiliary 6 and Van Buren Genealogy Society.

Note: On June 4, 1988, a U.S. Constitution Bicentennial Tree and Historical Marker were placed in the front courtyard at Parkview Care Center in Fairfield, Iowa by the local Log Cabin Chapter of the NSDAR, funded in part from memorial money collected on behalf of Mrs. McHARGUE.
