Clarence H. SLOAN, age 81 of rural Batavia, passed away at 2:20 PM, Friday, October 28, 2011 at his home.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, November 1 at Kremer Funeral Home in Eldon, with Reverend David Albert officiating. Burial will be in Eldon Cemetery. Friends may call after noon on Monday, October 31 at Kremer Funeral Home, where the family will be present for visitation from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Monday evening.
Clarence Henry SLOAN was born on September 20, 1930 in Eldon, Iowa, the son of Oscar and Vera LONEY SLOAN. He was educated in Eldon, and graduated from Eldon High School in 1950. Clarence served in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1955. On April 29, 1956 he married Janet Lee SPILMAN in Eldon.
Survivors include his wife Janet SLOAN of Batavia; one son David Allen SLOAN of West Branch; one daughter Dana Lynn TYLER and husband Jamie of LeClaire; one grandson Josh SLOAN of Oskaloosa; three step grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; one nephew Stanley SLOAN of Knoxville; cousin Margaret SLOAN of Rochester, MN; and several other cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers.
Clarence had worked for many years as an equipment operator at the Dexter Foundry. He then worked for several years at Waste Management in Fairfield. He was a member of the Fairfield Masonic Lodge. Clarence and Janet enjoyed spending time together at the riverboat and casinos, and his passion was mushroom hunting.
A memorial fund is being established for The Lord's Cupboard in Fairfield.
