Death of Abram B. SCOTT.

Abram B. SCOTT, one of Fairfield's best and best known business men, died in this city very suddenly Thursday afternoon. He was stricken with neuralgia of the heart the previous Monday, but had apparently recovered from the attack, and at noon of the day he died remarked that he was feeling remarkably well again. A second attack came a little later and he passed away within an hour or two. Mr. SCOTT had been a resident of Jefferson county since 1865. He lived for many years on a farm four miles north of Fairfield, and in 1883 came to this city and soon afterwards went into the grocery trade with his son, W. E. SCOTT, as a partner. The firm was dissolved January 1st, 1902, and the senior member retired from active life.

Mr. SCOTT was born in Washington, Penn., February 8th, 1832, grew to manhood there and was educated in Washington and Jefferson college. At Clarkstown, Penn., where he was associated with his father in an extensive mercantile business, he was married to Miss Sarah EVANS, March 18th, 1858. They were the parents of three children, only one of whom is now living, W. E. SCOTT of this city. Mrs. SCOTT died in this city December 9th, 1883. In 1884, November 5th, he was married to Miss Rebecca LaCOCK of Salem, who survives him. Mrs. C. H. WHITAKER of this city is a sister and the only living member of the family.

Few men who have ever lived in Fairfield have stood higher in public esteem than Abram B. SCOTT. His was a splendid type of manhood. He was a business man of undoubted integrity, a public spirited citizen, a devout member of the Presbyterian church from an early age and ever active in its works. He was broad in his views of all things, kindly and generous. In church, social and public affairs he always bore his share of the burden. He will be deeply missed from the business life of Fairfield.

Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church Saturday afternoon, and they were largely attended. Banks and business houses were closed during the funeral hour. The service was conducted by Rev. Alexander Corkey, the pastor, assisted by Rev. J. L. Gage.
