Howard LUCAS

Howard LUCAS, 89, died Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011, at Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield.

A graveside service, with military rites, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Packwood Cemetery, with words of comfort by Larry Statler. A luncheon will follow at Veterans of Foreign Wars in Fairfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friends of Lake Darling for four-season cabins. Cards and memorials may be sent to 205 W. Briggs Ave., No. 111, Fairfield 52556.

Mr. LUCAS was born July 20, 1922, in Farson, the son of Merle Earnest and Zella Mable MILLER LUCAS. He married Marcelle PARCELL Jan. 1, 1942, in Memphis, Mo.

Mr. LUCAS owned Howdee's restaurant in Fairfield for 10 years and was a truck driver for 25 years.

He served in the United States Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; four children: Deanna ZILLMAN of Fairfield, Darlene CLARK and husband Phil of Pleasantville, Merrill LUCAS and wife Sue of Brighton and Cindi McFARLAND and husband Jeff of West Des Moines; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Ray and Harold; one son-in-law: Don ZILLMAN; and one grandson.
