Services Set for Hazel NICHOLS

Hazel E. NICHOLS, 85, a resident at Parkview Care Center since Feb. 12, 1985 died this morning at Parkview.

She was born Sept. 2, 1902 at Keosauqua, the daughter of George and Mary KENNEDY HENDRICKS. The family moved to Fairfield when Hazel was one month old and she has lived her entire life here.

Mrs. NICHOLS worked in the Martin Tea Room for many years, served as resident caretaker of the McElhinny House, and was a cook at the Fairfield High School for several years. She was a member of the Fairfield Free Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She married Clarence NICHOLS Jan. 7, 1955 at Batavia.

She is survived by nine children: Kathryn SHAW, St. Peter, Mo.; Dorothy SCHENK, Burlington; Helen WEBSTER, San Jose, Calif.; Leonard "Sug" KANE, Corpus Christi, Texas; Alice FERRELL, Fairfield; Leland KANE, Des Moines; Lester KANE, Arlington Heights, Ill.; Janyce RODENMAYER, Cottage Grove, Ore.; and Ruth STEPHENS, Beloit, Kansas; 29 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen JUNKIN, Reseda, Calif.; and a brother, Paul HENDRICKS, Denver, Colo.

She is also survived by step-children: Marjorie BENN, Fairfield; Gerald NICHOLS, Lockridge; Kathleen BROOKS, Galva, Ill.; Hillis NICHOLS, Belfonte, Maine; and several step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Earl KANE (sic - John Earl Kane, buried in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Fairfield), Fred MANLEY (Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield) and Clarence NICHOLS, two daughters and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Raymond Funeral Home with burial in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7-8 p.m. at the Raymond Funeral Home.

A memorial has been established to the Free Methodist Church or the Senior Citizen Center.

Note: Hazel is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield, with her second husband, Fred. She has one gravestone under the MANLEY surname and one under the NICHOLS surname, both on the same lot, SDiv.2-015.
