Mrs. J. M. DUNN died last night at Abingdon, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Edward BAKER. Has resided in Abingdon for the past three years, having moved there with her husband from near Stockport. She leaves her husband, a son, Thomas DUNN, County Line, and two daughters, Mrs. Edward (sic - George Edward) BAKER of Abingdon, and Mrs. Rebecca NUMBERS of Mentone, Calif.

Mary Syvilla PURYEAR was born Dec. 5 1854 near Selma, Van Buren County, Iowa; died Feb 27 1924 at the home of her daughter Mrs. Minnie BAKER at Abingdon, Iowa age 70-2-22. Married James DUNN in 1873 (sic - and again in 1912). Leaves husband, four children: Mrs. Rebecca NUMBERS of Mentone, Calif.; Mrs. Minnie BAKER of Abingdon; Anna Jane who died years ago, and one son Thomas DUNN who resides near Batavia; 11 grandchildren. M.E. Ch. Bur. Abingdon Cemetery.

Note: Her birthdate is engraved as September 18, 1854, on her gravestone, however the DOD and age noted above are more consistent with the December 5th DOB. Her obituary also notes her middle name as Syvilla, while she's 'Mary A.' on her stone. Mary and James must have divorced at some point; they were first married in 1873 and again in 1912, which was his fifth marriage and her second. James is buried in Brethren a/k/a Dunkard Cemetery.
