Irene Mae FILSON

Irene Mae FILSON, 80, died at 2:10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.

A service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield, with the Rev. Peggy Egbert officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Birmingham.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established. Cards and memorials may be sent to 2879 193rd Blvd., Fairfield 52556.

Mrs. FILSON was born April 21, 1931, in Glasgow, the daughter of Ernest and Merle Marie MARTIN HARTLEY. She married Floyd Maurice FILSON Aug. 11, 1951. He died in October 2004.

Mrs. FILSON was a homemaker. She was a cook for the Stockport Senior Citizens Center.

She was a member of the Red Hat Society and Bonnett Community Club.

Mrs. FILSON enjoyed cooking, sewing and attending the Iowa State Fair.

Survivors include four children: Sandy NELSON and husband Joe of Fairfield, Judy NICHOLSON and husband Mike of Batavia, Mike FILSON and wife Evelyn of Birmingham and Gary FILSON and wife Deanna of Stockport; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister: Darlene WELLS.
